Hulu Terengganu is the biggest district and the only land locked.  It borders with Kelantan, Pahang and part of Hulu Terengganu is actually included in Malaysia's Taman Negara (National Park).  Although most people enter the Taman Negara through Kuala Tembeling, Pahang, Tanjong Mentong in Tasik Kenyir is actually the nearest entry point into Taman Negara.  Hulu Terengganu District boasts vast virgin rainforests which offers diverse flora and fauna.  The ecosystem is really unique because it has remained untouched for millions years.  Here, there are plenty of outdoor activities to please even the least adventurous.  One can engage in jungle trekking, camping, sport fishing, mountaineering, mountain biking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, caving, bird watching as well as a night safaris. 

 

It is here in Hulu Terengganu that the Batu Bersurat was found.  The artifact proves that the earliest Islamic government was found here in Terengganu.  The marginates Melaka by 100 years.  Kuala Berang is he district's commercial and administrative centre.  From Chinese historical records, it is discovered that the name 'Fo-lo-an' refers to Kuala Berang, a trading post with commercial link with its regional neighbours.

Sekayu Waterfalls

Taman Kuang Ajil

(Pheasant Bird Park Ajil)

 

Ajil is the only place in Malaysia to have a park solely for the rearing of pheasants.  The park has a systematic breeding centre.  With more than 30 species, this park was certifid by the Malaysian Book Of Records as the largest pheasant breeding farm.  This 1.7 acre park includes a good collection of Malaysian Green Peafowl which have been labeled as extinct in Malaysia.  They were brought in from Germany and currently the park is in the process of re-introducing the pheasants back to their natural habitat.

 

Memorial Batu Bersurat

(Inscribed Stone Memorial)

 

Located in Kampung Buluh, Kuala Berang, this replica of the Batu Bersurat was built to commemorate the discovery of the historical artifact.  The Batu Bersurat is actually a proclamation of the Islamic laws decreed by King Mandalika, Seri Paduka Tuan in 1303 AD.
