| | | | | | Kemaman is the southern-most district of Terengganu with Chukai as its administrative centre. It is by far the most developed district in the state, thanks to the state choice of building refineries in the district. Processing plants of all kind mushroomed over a short period of time. The long coastline that spans Kertih and Kuala Kemaman accounts for the existing numerous fishing villages. Chukai was once a busy port. During the years, Chukai was visited by many traders from the distant shores. | |

It is of little wonder Kemaman has such houses as the Rumah Jambi and Masjid Jambi that are built by the descendeants of settlers from Jambi, Sumatera. | | | Telaga Simpul Located Nwear Bukit Penjabad of Kuala Kemaman near Marina Beach, Telaga Simpul was mentioned in the journals of the great traveler, Abdullah Munshi. There is a freshwater well. For a long time, travellers have been using the well to freshen to replenish their water supply. However, according to myths, travellers must tie a knot using the pandanus leaves nearby and place it by the well to avoid bad luck. Today, the place has been restored and basic amenities are provided. | | Pantai Kemasik (Kemasik Beach) Slightly further north of Chukai is the Kemasik Beach that looks dazzling and inviting. Here, one can visit typical Malay villages where the people are warm and friendly. The fireflies live on Berembam Trees and these trees are also their source of food. During the mating season, female and male fireflies are rife and abundant. When thousands and thousands of these fireflies flash simultaneously, the night sky will light up like there are a million stars in the sky. | | | Bakau Tinggi Recreation Park Bakau Tinggi is a swampy mangroves of Sungai Bakau Tinggi. One of the main attractions of this park is its river, long and winding with waters so clear you can see the fish swimming. Here, all the basic facilities are provided including gazebos, playgrounds, public toilets and food stalls. Boardwalks and jetties have been built as added convenience. | | Kampung Tuan Mosque Situated near the riverbanks of Sungai Limbong, the mosque was built in 1830 by Syed Abdul Rahman Abdul Samad, a religious teacher from Pattani, Thailand. What makes this mosque special is its four-tier rooftop with the upper-most tier made entirely of copper. The building itself was made of durable Cengal wood and is carved with intricate motifs that were influenced by the Islamic arts from Pattani. All these have made the mosque stands out among the others. | | | Masjid Jambi (Mosque) Built in 1937 at Kampung Pasir Gajah, Masjid Jambi was bult by the village folks themselves with traditional building materials brought in from Indonesia. It roof tiles were specially imported from India. The mosque also spoils a replica of the buffalo's horn on its rooftops and the influence of Jambi Heritage is clearly evident in this building. | | |
