GETTING TO KUALA LUMPUR
 

The state-of-the-art Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is the main gateway into the country and services over 45 international airlines. The city is situated about 55km from KLIA. Several public transport options provide easy access to the city. Kuala Lumpur is also accessible from Port Klang, the country’s largest seaport, 41 km away. An excellent road and railway network links Kuala Lumpur to Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south.

KLIA Ekspres / KLIA Transit

The KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit (also known as Express Rail Link or ERL) are the fastest modes of transport connecting the airport to the KL Sentral Station, the main transportation hub in the city. KLIA Ekspres offers a non-stop 28-minute ride from the airport to KL Sentral. It departs every 15 minutes during peak hours (5.00am - 9.00am, 4.00pm - 10.00pm) and every 20 minutes during off-peak times (9.00am - 4.00pm, 10.00pm - 12.00am). The fare is RM35. The KLIA Transit departs every 30 minutes and stops en route at Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi. The journey to the airport takes 36 minutes and the fare is RM35. KLIA Transit is linked to the KTM Komuter and STAR LRT services at the Bandar Tasik Selatan Station.

 

KLIA Limousine Taxis

Airport limousine taxis are available at the Arrival Hall on Level 3 of KLIA. These taxis offer pick-up and transfer services using a prepaid coupon system. Travel time to the city takes between 45 minutes to an hour. Fares differ according to the zone and type of taxi (budget or premier). A surcharge will be imposed for transfers between midnight to 6.00am.

 

Airport Coach

The airport coach provides scheduled services to Jalan Duta Bus Terminal and Chan Sow Lin LRT Station in the city. The bus station is situated at the Ground Floor of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

 

From KLIA to Jalan Duta Bus Terminal

Hourly services are available from 6.00am - 12.30am

Fare: RM20 (Tickets can be purchased at the counter)

 

From KLIA to Chan Sow Lin LRT Station

Hourly services are available from 7.30am - 9.30pm

Fare: RM10 (Tickets can be purchased at the counter)

 

The airport coach also provides transfers to major hotels in the city and vice-versa for departing passengers. However, arrangements must be made 24 hours prior to departure. Travel time to the airport takes about 1½ hours, depending on traffic conditions.

GETTING AROUND KUALA LUMPUR

Getting around the city is convenient and affordable. KL Sentral, the city’s modern transportation hub, provides a comprehensive network of

train, bus and taxi services.

 
KL CENTRAL
 

 

KL Central (Stesen Sentral) Kuala Lumpur, dubbed as the “Virtual City Airport” station is the only transportation hub in Malaysia integrating all major rail transportation networks, Strategically located within the 72-acre of the KL Sentral development, it is also recognized and coded as an international destination “XKL” by the International Air Transport Association (IATA)

 

Contemporary and international in its design, in line with the “City within the city" concept, it aspires towards a celebration of harmonious coexistence of people and the environment; blending functionality with technology and accessibility. Stesen Sentral Kuala Lumpur is easily accessible by road or rail. It can be accessed via major road networks - Jalan Damansara, Jalan Mahameru, Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Travers.

TAXI
 

Taxis may be hired from taxi stands, hailed at the roadside or through a radio-phone paging system. Tel: 03-2693 6211, 9221 1011, 5633 0507, 7981 5352. City taxis operate by meter. The current rate is RM2 for the first 5km and 10sen for each subsequent 200m. Radio taxis charge an additional RM1 for phone bookings. A surcharge of 50% is levied between midnight and 6.00 am.

 
 
TRAINS
 

 

The classic Moorish-styled Kuala Lumpur Railway Station is air-conditioned and allows travellers to purchase tickets to almost anywhere in the Peninsula. The flexibility and convenience of travelling by train has now been reinforced by a new service-the KTM Komuter. If offers a speedy electric train service plying from Kuala Lumpur to as far as Port Klang, Rawang and Seremban. Tel: 03-2267 1200.

 

An extensive rail transport system links the major parts of the city. The three services available are Putra and STAR Light Rail Transits (LRT), KL Monorail and KTM Komuter. These services are frequent, punctual and hassle-free. Feeder bus services are available from train stations to designated surrounding areas. Weekly and monthly passes are available for frequent travellers. All lines, except STAR LRT converge at the KL Sentral Station.

The Putraline or Kelana Jaya Line covers a 29km route and is the third longest fully automated driverless metro system in the world. It stretches from the Putra Terminal in Gombak to the Kelana Jaya Terminal in Petaling Jaya. It serves 24 stations. The STAR LRT service consists of the Ampang and Sri Petaling Lines. The 15km Ampang Line runs between Sentul Timur in the north and Ampang in the east of Kuala Lumpur. The Sri Petaling Line plys Sentul Timur in the north and Sri Petaling in the southern part of KL. The two lines serve 25 stations. Trains operate from 6am to 11.45pm at 3 to 5-minute intervals during peak hours and 5 to 8-minute intervals during non-peak hours. Interchange between Putra and STAR LRT services can be done at the KL Sentral Station or Masjid Jamek Station.

 

KL Monorail

KL Monorail runs 8.6km with two parallel elevated tracks and serves 11 stations. It connects KL Sentral with major hotels and shopping malls in the city. Operating hours are between 6.00am to 12.00 midnight daily. During peak hours, trains arrive at 5-minute intervals and at 6 to 10-minute intervals during nonpeak hours. The starting point of KL Monorail is situated about 100 metres away from the KL Sentral Station.

 

KTM Komuter

KTM Komuter serves 41 stations and consists of two lines, Sentul – Port Klang and Rawang – Seremban. Services are available from 5.48am to midnight daily. Trains operate at 15-minute intervals during peak hours and 20-minute intervals during non-peak hours.

Limousine (Airport Limo)

Two levels of limousine taxi service are provided at KLIA viz, the Premier Service and Budget service. This is a pre-paid service and coupons have to be purchased at counters at the Arrival Concourse of the MTB. Fares and routes are based on a zoning system and varies according to the type of service used.
