Musical Instruments & Ceramics. Among the highlights here are the collection of keris or the Malay dagger, ceramics from the Ming Dynasty and traditional musical instruments from various parts of Asia. Its treasured items include the table used to sign the Pangkor Treaty in 1874, which marked the beginning of British intervention in the Malay states, as well as the first Federation of Malaya flag which was raised to signify independence in 1957. This museum located within Bank Negara or the Central Bank of Malaysia traces the evolution of money and provides an insight into how people traded in ancient times before money was invented. The collection includes coins from the Malay Sultanate, colonial money, private tokens, commemorative issues and world currencies. Highlights are the cockerel-shaped barter currency used in 1710 in Kedah and brass items used in Borneo until the 20th century. Its Art Centre houses a collection of works by local artists.
