The Putrajaya Convention Centre, or PCC in short, is another distinct landmark in the city with facilities designed to attract international and regional conventions, exhibitions and private functions. It takes the shape of the 'Wau Bulan' (moon kite) and the pending perak (silver royal belt buckle), with the main halls set in the ‘eye” of the pending perak.
The total gross floor area of the PCC is about 135,000 square metres over nine levels. The largest meeting hall’s the Plenary Hall, which measures 4,302 square metres and can accommodate 3,000 delegates. It’s Banquet Hall measuring 4,347 square metres can accommodate a maximum of 4,500 guests (cocktail style) and 2,000 guests (banquet style); and the Head of States Hall measures 518 square metres with 184 theatre-style seats, In addition, there are two levels of parking areas with a total of 1,200 bays.
The 300 metres circular Dataran Putra, adorned with light and water features, is the centrepiece of Precinct 1. Designed as two concentric plazas, the circular ceremonial area is an open hard landscape encircled by Chahar Baghs, the recreation of Eden with its four quadrants and four rivers. Serving as a transition between the parks and the ceremonial area, the Chahar Baghs is a carefully arranged interplay of paths, water channels, flowerbeds and trees. Beyond the Chahar Baghs is a sea of colourful local flora.
Dataran Putra is divided into 11 segments, in the pattern of an 11- pointed star The 11-pointed star represents the 11 states of Malaya when the country gained independence in August 1957; an inner 13-pointed star the 13 states that formed Malaysia in 1963 and within it a 14-pointed star with the inclusion of the Federal Territories.
The Millennium Monument is the first national monument to be built in Putrajaya. Its construction serves to document the country’s achievements.
The Monument will be the medium for the younger generation to learn about the country’s history, the sacrifices and success stories of local leaders, inspiring them to strive for higher achievements in the future.
The Monument which is sited on a 25-hectare park in Precinct 2, takes the shape of the Bunga Raya, and is 68 metres in height. Its main pillar has different diameters measuring 3 metres at the base, 4 metres in the middle and has a pointed tip. The monument is constructed of solid metal and strengthened with metal structures.
Discerning business and leisure travelers who wish to pick up contemporary pieces of art and pottery or scout around for something different yet beautiful, can make their way to the Souq, Anjung and Lanai shopping centres. ‘Souq” is a Persian word that means a street of small stalls and it emulates the famous bazaars in the Middle East. It is a new shopping concept featured there and something of a gentrified version of the real thing. Besides shopping, visitors can feast their eyes on the unique display of the merchandise and the colourful surroundings. There are more than 50 outlets offering various souvenirs, accessories, clothes, food item and handicrafts. Visitors can also find restaurants, convenience stores, bookstores, pharmacies and handicraft shops at Anjung and Lanai.
Visitors who are in the city for business or pleasure can opt for a tantalising meal at dining outlets like Putrajaya Lake Club, D’Fisherman Seafood Restaurant, Selera Putra and Medan Selera.
Dine by the tranquil Putrajaya Lake and view the impressive skyline of the city at Putrajaya Lake Club, Sited cosily in a valley with small hills flanking it, the club offers standard clubhouse facilities and activities such as boating, kayaking and canoeing.
