 Homestay Programme Agro Visits

The Homestay programmed offers you the unique opportunity

to experience farming.

Agro tourism is popular and fascinating as Malaysia was once an agriculture-based economy.  In fact many Malaysian's are still very involved in this sector. The industries is sustained by crops like corn, soya bean, cocoa, rubber and oil palm.  Experience first-hand what it is like to tap a rubber tree, harvest paddy, or pluck clusters of orange-red oil palm fruits.

At many Homestay villages, you will find numerous tropical fruit trees around the houses and no visit is complete without trying at least some of the varieties available.

Enjoy a bite of freshly plucked star fruit, banana, ciku, rambutan, durian, pineapple, mango, mangosteen, jackfruit and many other local fruits.  Coconut tree can  be easily spotted swaying gracefully in most Homestay villages.  Its juice is a popular thirst quencher.

Villager usually fish using fish rods, traditional fish traps or cast nets.  Some rivers and ponds yield popular and tasty freshwater fishes.

These include the ikan toman (Giant Snake Head Fish), which can weigh up to eight kilogram's or even the ikan patin (Cat Fish), which is considered a delicacy.

Homestay visitors can also observed various farm animals such as chickens, ducks, buffaloes and goats in the vicinity of the kampungs.  Together with the locals, you can try your hand at either feeding or milking them.
