Predominantly produced in the east coast states, the world-renowned batik cloth is worn by Malaysians attending formal ceremonies or evening engagements. It is either hand-painted or printed and is made using dye and wax. attractive motifs and colours adorn this cloth, which is usually worn as a sarong by those staying in rural areas and kampungs. 

Batik is a popular souvenir with visitors too. Another traditional craft found in some Malaysian villages is the mengkuang mat.  These mats are made from mengkuang leaves, which are also used to make handy household items like dish covers, hats, floor mats, table mats and baskets.

The leaves of these plants are stripped of thorns and split into equal-sized strands. They are then soaked, dried and dyed before they are ready to be woven into various items. Try your hand at weaving them under supervision of local experts.  Crafted with skill and techniques that are
