Cruises along the Malacca River are available at the quay behind the tourist information centre. The 45-minute tour passes through the downtown area. Among the sights are old warehouses, shop houses, bridges and Kampung Morten, a traditional Malay village. The return trip passes wharves down river.

Malacca’s beaches offer water sports like swimming, surfing, boating and canoeing. Among the popular beaches in the vicinity of the city are Tanjung Keling, Pantai Puteri, Pantai Klebang and Tanjung Bidara.

Off the Malacca coast are a cluster of islands, the largest being Pulau Besar and Pulau Upeh. Pulau Besar offers sandy beaches, beachfront chalets, beach activities and golfing. It is 3 nautical miles from the Pengkalan Pernu jetty at Umbai,10km south of the city. Boats leave hourly to the island. Pulau Upeh is a quiet island getaway for nature lovers and provides visitors the opportunity to see the rare Hawksbill turtle.
