This quaint coastal town often referred to as the gateway to the east coast, is the capital and center of administration of Pahang Darul Makmur, the largest state in Peninsula Malaysia. Despite fast becoming a well-developed town, its warm hospitality and friendly people are still felt the moment you set foot. This enchanting atmosphere plus its just as friendly weather, attract visitors to this colourful town. Another aspect of the town that has become the pride of the state and the envy of others is its cleanliness, reputed to be one of the cleanest cities in Malaysia.

A POT - POURRI OF SENSES

You could still savour the towns famous popular delicacies, the pungent aroma of salted fish and fish crackers as you stroll down Jalan Besar. Across the river at Tanjung Lumpur there are several restaurants and eating stalls offering barbecued fish and other sea products - a much sought-after delicacy of the tourists to Kuantan. The town has commercial activities to match its presence as the state capital. The Kuantan Parade and Berjaya Megamall are some of the prime locations for commercial and business activities.

As a state with a multi-cultural and multi- religious society, ancient religious practices of these various faiths can be observed in the Hindu Temple at Jalan Bukit Ubi, the Chinese temple at Bandar Indera Mahkota and the Christian Church at Jalan Gambut.

For fervent golfers, there are luxurious golf clubs to tee off in, such as the Astana Golf & Country Club Kuantan or the Pahang Royal Golf Club at Teluk Chempedak.

A SYNERGY OF PAST & PRESENT

Although new buildings have sprouted all over this charming historic town, you can still find stately homes, colonial bungalows, courthouses side by side with modern office complexes painting the town, lending a lovely contrast to the upwardly developed town. Take for instance the majestic State Mosque that stands regal with its distinctive dome and minarets painted in pastel shades of blue and mint green.

Another place of interest is the Muzium Tokoh Negeri Pahang that was built in 1910. Formerly occupied by the Kuantan District Office, the museum was established to acquire and exhibit the life and stories, as well as the sacrifice, struggle, and achievement made by the ‘heroes’ of Pahang. Adjacent to the museum is another colonial building that now houses the Pahang Tourism office.
