Kampung Pengkalan Gelap, a small village located near the river coast in the district of Setiu, where the surrounding swampy area has abundance resources of nipah trees. This gift of nature are valued by locals who utilized its leave fronds in making beautifully crafted products such as "lekar',' a type of traditional utensil basket, fruit basket, hamper basket, traditional bird cage, lamp shade and other woven products limit by ones imagination. The Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation has selected Kampung Pengkalan Gelap as one of its handicraft producer developed under "One Village, One Product". |
