Tanjung Aru Beach Tanjung Aru, only 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu, is a good place to begin your holiday You can sunbathe on ivory-coloured sand or relax under cool casuarinas and swaying coconut palms. It is a beach with sparkling waters offering hours of exciting sea sports, from water skiing, windsurfing, snorkeling to scuba diving. Those keen on deep sea fishing or cruising around the islands can arrange to charter a boat at the Marina through the reception at Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort. Lok Kawi Wildlife Park This wildlife park in Sabah was opened in February 2007 with zoological and botanical attractions. The zoological section has orang utans, Borneo pygmy elephants, Sumatran rhinoceros, proboscis monkeys, gibbons, Malayan tigers and different species of deer, reptiles and birds. There is also a children’s zoo nearby. At the botanical area, visitors can take a jungle walk along a botanical trail and see different local plants such as ginger, palms, orchids, and nepenthes, among others. The Lok Kawi Wildlife Park is about 20 km from Koto Kinabalu city or 25 minutes by car. The area is accessible through the old Papar-Penampang road or Putatan-Papar road. The total area of the park is about 250 acres but only 50 acres have been developed as a wildlife park. It opens daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm. The entrance fees are RM10 for adults and RM 5 for children. For non - Malaysians, the fees are RM20 and RM10 respectively. |
