Port Dickson - The Home Of Sailing

The coastal stretch around Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, just south of Kuala Lumpur is a popular holiday and weekend picnicking destination for locals escaping the city.  While the beaches may not be as idyllic as others in Malaysia, the shaded beachfront, shallow waters, proximity to Kuala Lumpur and delicious seafood, combine to attract thousands of local holiday makers.  Resort hotels, apartments and golf courses add to Port Dickson's relaxed atmosphere.

Further south, at Tanjung Tuan (Cape Rachado) there is a historic lighthouse.  Twice a year, migratory Honey Buzzards, arrive and depart from here on their flight to and from the neighbouring Indonesian island of Sumatra and beyond.  Seremban, the capital of Negeri Sembilan is jus 45-minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur.

The main tourist attractions here are the State Museum Cultural Complex, Minangkabau architecture (originally from Sumatra, Indonesia) and Taman Tasik (Lake Gardens).

To the south is the small settlement of Sri Menanti is the heart of Minangkabau culture and the state royal capital.  The town is noted for its distinctive architecture and the old palace, Istana Lama.

To the south is the small neighbouring state of Malacca a significant and historic seaside port along the Straits of Malacca.  The old buildings and traditional trades and crafts make this one of Malaysia's most visited cities..  Many buildings reflect the Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial periods.  The old parts of the city are ideal for walking and exploring and there are many museum to visit.
