Be dazzled by the explosion

of colours revealed in these pristine waters...

 

Miri is a tropical haven blessed with the splendours of nature. The Mulu National Park is a World Heritage site of the most amazing limestone caves, stunning in size and magnitude. The charming oil-rich coastal town of Miri is the new frontier of diving in Malaysia with many a pristine dive site (and many yet to be discovered) no more than 30 minutes from the coast. Miri is one of the last few pristine patches of reef with the most charming secret gardens. Gorgonians, sea-whips, anemones, sponges and crinoids are in abundance. Reef fish like angelfish, butterfly fish, fusiliers, groupers, stingrays, parrotfish are among the species that can be found. There are also at least 40 species of nudibranchs to he found here.

 
Lennon's Memorial
 

A huge bommie site bursting with underwater jungles of hard and soft corals in a rainbow of colours, Len non’s Memorial is dedicated to the memory of the late John Lennon.

 
 
Eve's Garden
 

A shallow reef of up to l5rn, Eve’s Garden is where curious batfish greet divers and escort them to their playground of elephant ear sponges and sea whips. and where schooling yellowtail fusiliers anti angelfishes parade through fields of giant anemones spread generously over the entire reef.

 
 

 
Tukau Drop-Off
 

Tukau Drop-Off is an intriguing wall dive that begins at 2Gm that drops away to about 4Gm. Besides admiring the dense coral growth, remember to look into the blue abyss for wild pelagic action and thriving schools of jacks and barracudas. There is also the wreck of the Sri Gadong, teeming with resident giant groupers.

 
 
Anemone Garden
 

Hard and soft corals and, of course, anemones and their symbiotic clown fishes thrive here. There are bubble corals, anchor corals and the colourful dendronephthya soft corals, feather stars, giant clams and numerous species of nudibranchs to keep the diver distracted throughout the dive.

 
 
Getting There
 

Fly to Sarawak’s Kuching International Airport with daily flights by Malaysian Airlines from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bandar Seri Begawan and Perth, then take en internal flight to Miri. Alternatively, travel direct to Miri from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Labuan on either 4alaysian Airlines or budget carrier Air Asia.
